Renewing my love affair with socks
I haven’t knitted in months. I completed a pair of socks in the fall, but other attempts to begin (or finish) a project had been met with knitting ennui on my part. Buying yarn wasn’t a problem – the colors cheered me up immensely. Twisting it into knots, however…I’d gotten lonely with the solo act of yarn play, and a couple of book deadlines kept my nose to the computer and my fingers to the keyboard. Now that I’m free of deadlines, I’m all about the knitting.
My neighborhood yarn shop has a new (younger! woohoo!) owner. She tore down some of the walls, put cushy sofas out in front of the big window, and encouraged me to drop by for sitting-and-knitting whenever I’d like. Additionally, she told me about Ravelry and I’ve been obsessively checking the invitation status page since Friday afternoon.
Since it’s summer time, and winters in Maryland aren’t as cold as winters in Massachusetts were, I’m focusing on the fingerweight yarns and twisting them into golf socks/footies for myself. Right now I’m using a Tofootsies yarn, color something close to this yarn Katy blogged about and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that one ball really will make two socks – maybe since they’re footies I’ll be OK.
I’m knitting mine on size 2 with a whole bunch of extra stitches in the round (72) because I have a high instep and a thick ankle (thankfully not a cankle). I’m just hoping, now that I’ve read Katy’s experience, that I didn’t go overboard on the stitch count. I’m too lazy to unravel and start over.
Picture when I find the charger for my camera (and when I get further into the sock).
